About this deal
On balance, of all the enclosures I have used, this Ferplast Maxi Multi Duna is the best, and the most practical to use. A more expensive option could be getting a tank for him, but it would be big enough for both bedding and his wheel among other things. It's about 100x50cm which is 800sq inches approximately, far above the RSPCA requirements for all Syrian, Chinese (who are not dwarves as they have a different genus) and Dwarf hamsters.
The grill allows good ventilation inside the habitat, it can be lifted up for easy access to the inside; once closed, it can be locked thanks to two rotating safety hooks. The cages are solid and robust, easy to clean and maintain, and available in a variety of sizes, types and materials… choose the one you like most! Leaving the solid shelf gives a level and removing the other shelf gives space for a good sized wheel. Some mention it's easy to assemble and clean, while others say it' s quite confusing to put together and that the clips were very stiff and cost them lots of time. I also have a large glass tank containing a Russian dwarf, which is better in terms of allowing more depth for digging, but is impossible to move and much harder to clean.
They need much more ventilation and this can only be used if they have free range of an entire room to go in and out as they please. It is very large – almost one metre long – and has a large, transparent plastic roof with a grid on top that can be opened. Had to pop a bamboo rod through the holes in top piece (designed for water bottle) as Peanut (the mouse) would definitely have been able to squeeze through and escape! The cage for animals Maxi Duna Multy is practical to clean: the roof and bottom can be separated by means of unfastening side clips.
