About this deal

Amrut Greedy Angels was a limited edition 50% abv, 8-year-old single malt whisky released in April 2013. Grown in the foothills of the Himalayas using the 'water of life' from the local rivers, this spirit truly captures the rich and colourful flavours of India. Amurt Single malt whisky is made from selected Indian Barley grown in the foothills of the Himalayas. The climate in India has a real influence on the shape of the product and it is said that 15% is lost each year during maturation, which means that we are unlikely to ever see an Amrut expression beyond 7 or 8 years old. Barley is procured from Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan, while the peated barley is imported from Scotland. Nose: Almost smells like plain white grape juice, barely getting any alcohol off of it and it is close enough that it is nearly going up my nostrils. The distillery initially tried importing staves to save money, but abandoned the practice due to the smell of the barrels.

This is a young whisky, but balanced and built around a clean and sweet barley core, with toffee and vanilla at its center. Fusion has been picking up awards ever since it first appeared in 2009 including getting a rating of 97 out of 100 from Jim Murray in his Whisky Bible 2010 making it the third best whisky in the world that year. Due to its location, Amrut enjoys an accelerated maturation of its whiskies (3-4 times that of Scotland) however the Angel’s share can be 15% per year.Distilled in the ‘plant capital’ of Bangalore, each unit is matured in American Oak Barrels and filtered straight into the bottles to sustain its natural flavour and colour.
