About this deal

Hibiscus oil is about the only thing that can make my hair feel soft again. If I just wash it with regular shampoo and condition it, then it feels coarse and dry, like hay. If I use the oil, it feels like real hair again. There are hundreds of types of hibiscus, including herbs, shrubs, and trees. The most commonly cultivated type is Hibiscus sabdariffa, a shrub marked by red stems and wide yellow flowers that turn pink and red ( 1, 2).

Infuse: Place the ground hibiscus in a jar, and pour the base oil over the top until the petals are fully submerged. Seal the jar tightly and leave it in a warm spot to infuse for 4-6 weeks. Step 3: Stir the mixture well for a few minutes while it’s warm. Once the oil is blended well, keep it aside to cool down. So recently when experimenting using hibiscus seed oil in a melt recipe I wanted to bring that red to what I was working on by using a natural pigment to add color. Below are two hibiscus seed oils from two different suppliers. One is just slightly darker and cloudier than the other, but otherwise, these two oils are identical in feel and absorption and they have the same fatty acid profile. A small study in 16 older women with metabolic syndrome found that drinking hibiscus tea twice daily for 21 days significantly reduced blood pressure, blood triglycerides, and fasting blood sugar compared with placebo ( 20).In fact, a review of 7 studies with a total of 362 participants concluded that hibiscus tea did not significantly reduce total cholesterol or triglyceride levels ( 13). In this study, we have shown that HE is able to induce apoptosis in both human ER+ and triple-negative breast cancer cell lines in vitro (Fig. 2a). We have demonstrated that HE treatment is very selective in inducing cell death in cancer cells without any significant effect on NHF cells (Fig. 4a). On the other hand, common chemotherapeutics like taxol were indiscriminate and induced apoptosis in both cancer and non-cancerous cells (Fig. 4a). Most importantly, we have shown that addition of HE in combination with chemotherapeutic agents enhanced the induction of apoptosis in triple-negative breast cancer cells (Fig. 2a). These results support the possibility of supplementing chemotherapeutic regimens with HE, which is well-tolerated in normal healthy cells. This may lead to a better combined effect, reducing the chemotherapeutic dosages needed in treatment and therefore reduce toxicity. Breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer among women worldwide, accounting for 25% of cancer incidence and 15% of cancer deaths among females [ 1]. Current work has developed and enhanced prediction models, screening methods, diagnostic tools, and disease management [ 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]. However, breast cancer treatment approaches become more complicated once the disease progresses to the complex metastatic stage. Although surgery to remove tumours in breast cancer has a high probability of survival, the majority of breast cancer related deaths are not from the primary tumour itself, but a result of metastasis to organs [ 7].

Hibiscus flower contains surfactants also known as saponins that helps to cleanse the skin deeply in a natural way. The organic acids and natural saponins present in hibiscus oil promote cleansing and helps to shed the dead skin cells, making the skin deeply clean. Thus, hibiscus oil can be used a natural cleanser and can be applied directly to the skin. Carey LA, Dees EC, Sawyer L, Gatti L, Moore DT, Collichio F, Ollila DW, Sartor CI, Graham ML, Perou CM. The triple negative paradox: primary tumor chemosensitivity of breast cancer subtypes. Clin Cancer Res. 2007;13(8):2329–34. Hibiscus aids in healing wounds faster by increasing the production of fibronectin protein in your skin. It also boosts hydration and cell regeneration in your skin which play a significant role in the process of wound healing.

This makes it the ideal deep conditioning treatment for your skin and hair. Hibiscus oil improves hair growth, gloss, and prevents premature greying and dandruff when applied to hair. What are the surprising hibiscus hair oil benefits? 1. Helps in hair growth

Annexin V binding assay and propidium iodide staining were performed to respectively monitor early apoptosis and cell permeabilization, a marker of necrotic or late apoptotic cell death. Cells were treated with various concentrations of hibiscus flower extract similar to those published previously with aqueous extracts of dandelion root and white tea [ 18, 19]. Cells were then treated individually or in combination with chemotherapeutics taxol, cisplatin, and tamoxifen as indicated in the results section. This protocol is similar to that previously published [ 18, 19]. Cells were washed with phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) and suspended in Annexin V binding buffer (10 mM HEPES, 140 mM NaCl, 2.5 mM CaCl 2, pH 7.4) with green fluorescent Annexin V AlexaFluor-488 (1:20) (Life Technologies Inc., Burlington, ON, CA, Cat No. A13201) and 0.01 mg/mL of red fluorescent PI (Life Technologies Inc., Burlington, ON, CA, Cat No. P3566) for 15 min at 37 °C protected from light. Percentage of early (green), late apoptotic cells (green and red), and necrotic cells (red) were quantified with a Tali Image-Based Cytometer (Life Technologies Inc., Burlington, ON, CA, Cat No. T10796). Cells from at least 18 random fields were analyzed using both the green (ex. 458 nm; em. 525/20 nm) and red (ex. 530 nm; em. 585 nm) channels. Fluorescent micrographs were taken at 400x magnification using LAS AF6000 software with a Leica DMI6000 fluorescent microscope (Wetzlar, Germany). Cells monitored with microscopy were counterstained with Hoechst 33342 (Molecular Probes, Eugene, OR, USA) with a final concentration of 10 μM during the 15-min incubation. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) quantification In Ayurveda, hibiscus is called ‘Japa’ and classified as the herb which has the potential to pacify aggravated Pitta and Kapha doshas. Thus, Ayurveda says hibiscus can treat skin ailments, especially those linked to elevated Pitta and Kapha,” says Dr. Zeel Gandhi, Chief Ayurvedic Doctor at Vedix. Benefits Of Hibiscus For Skin 1. Fights Aging Signs Most studies showing a benefit of hibiscus tea on blood fat levels have been limited to people with specific health conditions, such as metabolic syndrome and diabetes. Hibiscus has astringent properties [ 3] which help to tighten open skin pores, thus, controlling overproduction of sebum in your skin. “The vitamin C present in hibiscus helps in tightening your facial skin by promoting collagen production,” says Dr. Zeel. 6. Prevents Acne Hibiscus oil is a very beneficial oil to be used on, cuts, bruises, and wounds. It helps to cure them in no time and does not harm skin in any way and has no side-effects if applied on bruises or cuts directly.Step 4: The hibiscus and coconut oil for hair is ready to use! Massage your scalp with the hibiscus oil for about five minutes and leave it on for about 30 minutes or more.

I fell in love with hibiscus oil because of its scent. Because it's a carrier oil, the scent is very subdued, but that's why I love it. With none of the risks of added essential oils, using lightly scented carrier oils like hibiscus can really amp up your daily experience while improving your skin health. Key Takeaways In addition to lowering blood pressure, some studies have found that hibiscus tea may help improve blood fat levels, which can be another risk factor for heart disease ( 9). As indicated previously, breast cancer, primarily triple-negative, is highly resistant to chemotherapy treatment. We have shown that both triple-negative and ER-positive breast cancer cells are affected by HE treatment (Fig. 2). HE has also been shown to induce apoptosis significantly around treatment of 2 mg/mL of crude extract in prostate cancer, with a similar dose-dependency [ 24]. Did you know that hibiscus flowers are loaded with antioxidants? According to the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, flowers contain high amounts of polyphenols. These compounds help fight oxidative stress on the body’s cells. Ochani PC, D'Mello P. Antioxidant and antihyperlipidemic activity of Hibiscus sabdariffa Linn. Leaves and calyces extracts in rats. Indian J Exp Biol. 2009;47(4):276–82.Hibiscus is an ultra-hydrating and nourishing herb that is a rich source of protein, calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, potassium, zinc, vitamins-A, B6, C, E, and K.
