About this deal

While the price is higher than the Endura MT500 or Fox Ranger pants, this is offset by an included repair kit and free crash repair service. Overall, these are quality riding pants that fit great, feel comfortable and work in a range of conditions.

The waistline is elasticated at the rear and has an adjustable aluminium loop fastening at the front, which can be a touch fiddly. The elasticated waist however, is a comfort godsend, reducing any pressure into your stomach when riding. The waist has a simple zip and popper closure and a very subtle mtb-specific OppoSet waistband that allows you to tweak the waist size to your perfect fit. The only slight downside is length – if you are at the taller end of the scale then it may be a touch short in the leg.

Part of the award-winning MT500 Collection, Endura have seriously turned up the All-mountain dial to create the latest and greatest iteration of the best-selling MT500 Waterproof Trouser II. Collection of choice for Dowhill Legends the Athertons. Full length leg zips feature improved venting options and offer easy on off with shoes on. The new, more durable ExoShell40DR™ fabric and styling update to keep them in line with the rest of the revamped MT500 waterproof collection, these are sure to be your go to wet weather trousers for rides to come. PFC-Free and built to last this product now also has strong environmental credentials and is MADEKIND. EXOSHELL40DR™ Winter can provide some of the most epic riding days with cool, crisp air and snow-dusted trails. Reset the thermostat with the new MT500 Freezing Point Trouser and make even the coldest winter day a riding day. In the UK we are just coming to the end of one of the wettest winters in recent memory and I have probably worn these trousers about 20 times in the last 3 months, for pedally epics, E-Bike missions and even on the uplift. Normal riding kit has pretty much been stored away and I feel like I know these pants inside out. While the colours might be rather bold (there are other more subtle colours available, too), the logo isn’t too ‘in your face’. Dave Caudery / Our Media All waterproof fabrics are rated for waterproofness and anything over 10,000mm is pretty watertight in normal conditions. Breathability is also rated – look for the MVTR (Moisture Vapour Transmission Rate) figure. Above 20,000g/m²/24hr means good breathability. Fabric construction

The short review is that they are pretty awesome. I never get a wet bum, no matter how much spray there is and the DWR coating on the front is only just wearing off after more than a dozen washes. The breathability is as good as it gets and I rarely got too hot in the MT500s. When I did, I could reach for the zip vents on the thighs to lose some heat on the climbs. Reasons to buy: Lightweight and airy. Great fit and comfort. Well priced considering the quality, fit and performance. Women’s version also available

Clothing Size Guide

The styling and comfort is such that I’ve been using these pants for general wear; they’re also great for walking. Overall, there’s a whole lot to love about these pants, though I’d like to see some improvement in the waistband. endura mt500 freezing point trouser rear.jpg, by Liam Mercer Endura MT500 Freezing Point Trousers - Verdict Ben tested Endura’s MT500 Spray Trouser to see if they can stand up to the wettest British winter in years.

The MT500 Burner pants fit incredibly well around the upper legs and waist. Thanks in part to the stretch from the fabric and raised rear of the waist, I had zero issues with them shifting about or drooping while riding. The mountain bike race circuit puts huge demands on riders and kit and it’s the ultimate real-world testing ground when creating new apparel. With design input and development with the Athertons, the MT500 Burner Pants deliver an outstanding riding pant for downhill, enduro and trail use. All in all, I highly rate the Endura MT500 Freezing Point Trousers. They make riding in properly-arctic conditions enjoyable, practical, comfortable, and faff-free. Just watch the sizing.

Shredly Cascade Pants

This winter Endura has revamped the Freezing Point Trousers. The easiest way to tell the old from the new is the fastening at the fly. The old model has a single large button, the new model uses two poppers. The legs taper sufficiently to keep the bulk of the fabric sitting snug enough to prevent any excess material from riding up and rubbing on the cranks as you pedal. They also worked well over all the knee pads I tried them with. One feature I never used was the ankle zips that open up the bottom of the trousers and run along the reflective seam that dominates the design of the lower leg. I don’t really know why they are there to be honest as I can’t imagine people putting their riding trousers on after their shoes.

Way stretch fabric gives you unrestricted movement on your bike, leaving you to focus on the trail and not on your gear. Combine performance, comfort, fit and the price and you have the best on test – totally recommended. We’re big fans of Endura’s MT500 Burner Pant, it looks good and offers great durability and protection. This new Lite version is arguably better for trail riders though, because it’s incredibly light at 268g, or nearly half the weight of the downhill pant. Because the MT500 Burners are slimmer than some rival pants, you don’t get issues with them bunching heavily at the ankles – something that’s a real plus when they’re soaking wet.

Do I need to wear liner shorts under my riding trousers?

The pull-on style has a wide, stretchy yoga-legging style waist band, which hugs the hips and is great news if you’re curvy, and if ordinary trousers have a tendency to gape at the rear on you. A drawstring also means you can tighten and secure it to give a little more secure fit. However, I did find that these trousers had a tendency to pull down a little when riding – a problem we didn’t experience on the similarly designed Shredly MTB Shorts – possibly because of the pull of the fabric when worn over kneepads. Last up, we can’t not cover Patagonia’s ethical position. Taking impressive action in reducing its environmental impact, and its support of good causes, as well as its solid repair programme to keep your kit running for longer.
